Hiring Your HVAC Hero: 4 Questions to Ask

May 6, 2015 | Airconditioning, Heating, Residential, Ventilation

Every day, we hear wonderful stories about how certain providers are like heaven-sent experts who save our day. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning technicians are just some of these people, keeping our homes or offices comfortably cool or ideally warm. Those little issues in our furnace or A/Cs malfunctioning can keep us on our toes, so we want the best service there is – and at once!

On the flip side, some unfortunate customers talk about horrible HVAC customer service. These horror stories are told everywhere, and not even the most modest homes with the simplest HVAC issues are spared.

No one wants their furnaces dying in sub-zero temperatures or A/Cs becoming useless all day. So how do you dodge situations with inexperienced technicians who claim to have the best skills and offer impeccable service? Here are some questions you might want to ask:

1. Do You Hold Any Relevant HVAC License?

In several states, HVAC contractors are required to meet certain requirements in terms of education levels and relevant job experience. There are also licensure examinations that these contractors and technicians must pass in order to legitimately work in the industry.

2. What Equipment (And Brands) Do You Use?

Be a meticulous customer and learn about the equipment used for the job. Ask about the quality of this equipment and do your own research.

3. Whom Have You Worked for?

As a customer, you certainly would want to know if your technician has had success servicing others. Experience matters! Being the professionals that they are, your trusted HVAC contractor should be able to provide a list of references attesting to the timely and quality service they claim to offer. You can call these clients and let go of those lingering doubts about the people you welcomed into your home to fix your HVAC system.

4. How Much Do You Think this Job Will Cost?

Before any installation or repair work is started, be clear about the estimated costs of the job. You can ask for these estimates when you give your HVAC contractor a call, and confirm these upon the technician’s arrival in your home. Check the service contract and clarify any gray areas in the amount provided. This will prevent any cost mix-up, which is critical to ensuring a good and satisfying service.

When it comes to furnace installation and repair or emergency air conditioning service, demand quality and professional work at all times. You deserve it!
